| Alabama Mugs from JailBase.com |
You can slice it any way you like, but they were born to do this. They have a genetically misplaced code and putting them in a criminal justice class doesn't solve that. It simply postpones the inevitable. College football and basketball have become increasingly dangerous over that past few years as coaches have spent more and more time overlooking criminal backgrounds and focusing on talent. Hell, I guess these guys are fast. They've spent the first 16 years of their life running from the cops.
Right now, the finger is pointed squarely at Alabama and deservedly so, but the problem far exceeds the Crimson Tide.
- Mike McNeil, Antonio Goodwin, Shaun Kitchens and Dakota Mosley, all Auburn football players arrested for armed robbery.
-Oregon star LaMichael James strangles his girlfriend
-Oregon state lineman Tyler Thomas found drunk and naked in a stranger's home - attacks police
-Marshall defensive tackle Michael Fleurizard charged with felony robbery of a deliveryman -he and two others beat the hell out of him for $290
-Florida Gators' Jamar Hornsby - felony credit card fraud
- Virginia Tech Javier Boyce arrested for beating up his one year old son
-Miami freshman Jeffrey Brown - sexual battery
-Miami's Ramon Buchanan - assaulting a police officer
-LSU's Derrick Bryant - intent to distribute drugs
-Oregon's Kiko Alonso - breaking and entering and burglary
-South Carolina's Angelo Watley - grand larceny, theft, and violent burglary
-Kentucky linebacker Ridge Wilson - felony drug charges
-Drexel basketball players Jamie Harris and Kevin Phillip - armed robbery
-Kansas football players Jamal Green and Vernon Brooks - attempted aggravated robbery
-Missouri football player Derrick Washington - felony sexual assault
All of these arrests were made in the last three years and trust me when I say I could quadruple the length of this list easily. Last year Pitt had 22 players on their team with arrest records and I thought Pitt was an academic school. When you figure a college football team has about 125 players, that's 1/5 of their entire roster. That should be embarrassing, but apparently it's not as embarrassing as losing. Well in Pitt's case, they have managed to lose while recruiting convicts. Pitt is not alone, though. They were followed by Iowa with 18, Arkansas with 17 and a whole list of teams right behind them.
College football and basketball are becoming a dangerous joke, and coaches know it and simply turn their heads and look the other way. The greatest football player in NCAA history was Cam Newton with his stunning smile and his little Superman dance and everyone who didn't wear crimson loved him. He wasn't that bad though. All he did was steal a laptop and then have his father sell him to Auburn.
I am waiting for some liberal psychologist to point at the recent string of robberies and use that as ammunition to pay these idiots. "Maybe," he will say, "if we gave them something more than food, clothing, shelter and a college degree, they won't have to beat the shit out of an innocent college kid and steal his laptop."
The world is going straight to hell, and it is riding on the back of college athletics. I just hope, before we get there, we figure it out and change the direction. But, I guess, as long as we beat Auburn, and they don't kill any of my family and friends, I will look the other way, just like the coaches.

Rob.
ReplyDeleteCam Newton's father didn't sell him to Auburn. According to the same NCAA who has not leveled a serious charge agains the Crimson Tide, Newton's father shopped him to Mississippi State.
After an 18-month exhaustive search there was not one single shred of evidence that Newton was shopped to Auburn.
Let's not confuse the issue. It is Alabama under the microscope today, not Auburn.
Ha. Agreed.
ReplyDelete"Four Alabama players were arrested yesterday for robbery, assault, and fraudulent use of a credit card. What else is new."
ReplyDeleteYou pretty well answered your own question, unless you can think of some other instance where four Crimson Tide players were arrested for robbery, assault, and fraudulent use of a credit card.
I can't think of it happening any other time, so apparently the situation is new.
Bob, I get what you are saying, and keep in mind I'm a big Alabama fan. My commentary was really more on the state of college football in general, and I stand by my belief that I think things are out of control across the board. With that in mind, Saban has done a much better job than most in keeping his players in check. But I certainly understand your argument.
ReplyDeleteThanks , I've recently been searching for info approximately this topic for ages and yours is the greatest I've
ReplyDeletefound out till now. However, what about the conclusion?
